The EO4SD project is delivering EO-products to support the National Irrigation Program with a Watershed Approach (PRONAREC III) funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.
The objective of PRONAREC III is to support increased investment in the agriculture sector as well as for rounding out quality irrigation infrastructure with aspects that are essential if that infrastructure is to produce the expected benefits, with greater efficiency and with socioeconomic and environmental sustainability.
PRONAREC activities include the collection, and exploitation of data and information allowing to identify potential new areas and designing the implementation of irrigation systems for improving agriculture efficiency in the country. The project has characterized the hydrological network and water availability and their interest is to explore how EO can be applied at the landscape level to map the current extent of irrigation as well as Evapotranspiration to have a direct insight to the crop water status. Ultimately, this should help to identify areas in which investments are needed to better manage water and improve agriculture efficiency.
